Modern battery

Previous owner put a modern battery in my car. It reads:

Group 24F
CCA @ 0 degrees F 575
CA @ 32 degrees F 715

Is this the correct modern battery for my car?

Something about cold crank numbers need to be right etc. Sorry, but I don't know what is written on my battery is what.

Thank you, Roger

HI AUSMHLY, That battery will work ok in the car.---Keoke- /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Thank you Keoke.
What are the numbers on a stock battery? Or maybe I should ask, what they should be when using a modern battery. Sometime down the road, I will need to replace this PO battery. Instead of telling them this is what is in the car now, what are the correct numbers to tell them. Keoke, is the battery I have now the correct one, and no concerns?

I most likely will be converting my car to neg, alternator and halogen PL700. FYI.

Thank you, roger

You can get an original looking tar top battery from Moss for about $275. Or you can go to someplace like Costco and buy an Optima battery that never needs water, won't leak, and has significantly higher cranking power for half the price of a classic tar top battery, and only slightly more than a regular modern battery. The great thing about your Healey is that it has a battery cover (Moss 031-311) that hides the top of the battery, making it difficult to tell if the battery is correct for shows, etc. I think the main concern about which battery to get really involves the battery post locations. Remember if you switch to neg ground, what is now your pos cable will then connect to the negative post on the battery. You may be able to simply turn the battery 180 degrees, or you might want to buy a battery that has the posts reversed from your present battery. Most modern car batteries will have enough cold cranking power for your Healey.

No Shorn, I would say the main concern in selecting a battery would be the Batteries Ampere Hour Capacity. This characteristic IMOP should be not less than 65 AH. However, Selecting an Optima would take the guess work out of the next battery upgrade.---Fwiw---Keoke

If someone who is reading this thread is trying to keep thing original you can save some cash by going to www.antiqueautobattery.com and get a G27 Lucas lead acid battery for $145.00 plus shipping.(this is one that ships dry and you buy the acid from a parts store).

They also now make a maintenance free battery, G27 Lucas/B for $250.00 plus shipping. This they describe as an Optima type battery in an original Lucas looking case .. tar top look and all. These are sizes for my car (BJ7) but they carry other sizes.

Cheers,
John

/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/iagree.gif with the Optima Battery choice, plain or in a classic battery case. Take a look under where the battery goes in your car. Do you see either the acid damage or the extra or new metal where it was repaired ? This is why the optima battery is the ideal choice. It has more than enough capacity for our cars plus any " normal " add ons like you are considering. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/iagree.gif

I agree on the optima battery, Just installed 1 in my bn7.Another plus on the optima is the size of the battery enabled me to turn it sideways and use 1- 12 volt battery instead of 2 -6 volts as my car was equipt. Then in the freed up space were the othe 6 volt was I moved the fuel pump from over top the exhaust system to keep it from vapor locking. 1 other thing I moved the disconnect inside just left of the passanger seat so I can reach it from the drivers seat. Bob ( Hi Ed hows the bj8 coming along)

Hello BlueRidge1,

I haven't been able to do very much lately. Waited for a month for my third different windshield seal to arrive from the UK. Now work is very busy and we are into the Christmas season. I will be lucky to get a few days to work on it before the new year.
