Mobil 1 in a BJ8?

Do any of you have experience using Mobil 1 synthetic oil (20W50) in a Healey engine? I am considering going to that oil for my in good condition BJ8 engine. Mobils' website says that oil has the necessary wear inhibitors for the older pushrod engines. Has anyone tried this oil? Did oil pressure stay up in the good range when the engine is all warmed up? Thanks, Steve

Steve, I currently have Mobil 1 synthetic 15w50 in my BT7. Cold oil pressure is same as with 20w50 GTX, but is a little lower when warm, especially at idle. Engine temp is cooler though. Leaks the same as the Castrol. Bob

I am doing an engine overhaul and had my BJ8 cam & lifters reground to original specs by Elgin Cams and received a list of Mobile 1 Engine Oils from "Dema" (Dimitri), of Elgin Cams, and he had Mobil 1, 15W-50 circled in red. It has 1300 PPM, Zinc Level and it is for Racing and Flat tappet applications. He had written across the top of the sheet that "ZDDP must be above 1200 PPM".
The Mobil sheet had a total of 13 Mobil 1 Oils on it. I do not see "20W-50" on this sheet.

Phosphorous and zinc levels are the main reasons why I use Mobil 1 15-50 in everything I own in Canada. Here in Thailand it is not available and I use Mobile 1 Delvac for the same reason

The high viscosity index or the ability to retain viscosity at elevated temperatures, and the higher operating temperature are a bonous

I have been using 15W-50 Mobil-1 for two years now. I like it and as others have said, it is supposed to contain enough ZDDP to protect our lifters and cam lobes.
I find it in stock at the local Walmart super center from time to time in the 5-qt plastic jugs at a very good price.

Any problems with it leaking through the gaskets seals?

Hi, Guys,
Thanks for the response. I just went to the Mobil 1 website and it says the Mobil 1 15W50 is suitable for older engines with flat tappets and has 1300 ZDDP....sounds like a reasonable choice! Thanks, again. Steve

Hi Patrick,

I don't notice any additional leaking when using Mobil 1.
They all leak to one extent or the other no matter which oil we use. I would worry if it didn't leak.

I had a local club member tell me that his car leaked a lot when using synthetic. I wonder if he didn't "seal" the engine enough.
