I posted a similar question at the NASS Yahoo group. I would like suggestions from people here also.
I am in the process of fitting an EZ-Top to my '72 Spit. So far, things have gone well and I'm pleased with the purchase.
There was an issue with the old top and I'm seeing the same problem with the new top. There is a gap between the vertical draft tube that seals to the back edge of the passenger door window. With the door open, the sealing tube is straight and looks like it will contact the glass. Close the door and the sealing tube bows in about 1" at its mid-point. I know this will be a sizable gap for wind noise and possibly rain.
I took the old top apart and found that there were flat stainless steel strips (like long tongue depressors) sewn into the area adjacent to these vertical sealing tubes. There are no strips inside the new top. I'm tempted to open up a slit in the new top and insert these pieces of metal so I can bend them into a shape that will keep the tubes in place.
Has anyone else seen this issue with their tops and if so, what did you do about it. I'll modify the new top if necessary but obviously I'd prefer not to cut (even on the inside) a new top.
