im looking at a 63 mk2. I sat in it yesterday and I feel Cramped
Im 6 foot 2 and my head is on the ceiling so do the seats go down, not recline but drop vertically? the sixtys volvo you could lower the seats by changeing the bolt holes. some thing like that would be perfect.

how i can fit in a spridget and be cramped in mk2 i dont know.
 
I'm 6'3" tall and don't have a problem in a MK2. Seat must be all the way back and the back raked a little. 4 bolts hold seat in, remove and look at mounts, they can be modified.
 
great I real need to be a bit lower
now the question is can i live with right hand drive

Hi Steve,

I'm also 6'2" and feel OK in my MK2. The floor mounts are on an angle, so as the seat slides back, it also lowers. The seats may have been re-done and too much padding keeps your rear from sinking down.

On the RHD ...

I once bought an beautiful '67 3.8S that was RHD. I never felt comfortable driving it. In an emergency, I thought I would automatically reach to the right for the gear shift and grab/pull the handbrake on.

I had a friend who drove a RHD TR3 and I asked him how it was to drive. "You get used to it!" he'd say. Well 15 years later while working at a Jag shop The RHD Marks and SSs would come in and I got to try them on road tests. He was right I didn't have any problems just had to remember to use the other hand.
 
I have a 64 MK2, RHD, 2.4L 4 speed.
I have absolutely no problem driving it.
Every day.

The seats may lower, if you re-drill and re-shape, but I think the tracks are pretty close to the main floor crossmember.
There are two horizontal braces, see them if you pull the lower cushion (lift at the front), with two holes at the front, held with a small bolt.
You can "adjust" the seat back angle that way.

Take the bolts out, the seat back will fall into the back seat.
Position with vise grips until you like it, mark and re-drill, bolt in place.

I used to be 5'11-3/4", and I have far more headroom in mine than I did in our 67 Cougar.

I checked closer.
The slider closest to the console has about 1/2" clearance to the main crossmember, so dropping it 1/2" is about it unless you cut into the crossmember.
To add to that, the forward seat slider mount bolts are vertical, and thread into brackets welded to the forward part of the floor/chassis crossmember.
To lower even the 1/2" will require removal and re-welding of those brackets.
(I checked for bolts, holding bracket to floor/crossmember, could find none).
The door side slider has about 1" clearance to floor/crossmember.

You will also need to address the formers at the bottom corners of the seat back.
These are metal, covered in seat upholstery, and JUST clear the top of the console.

You will need to remove them, remove picnic tables, seat back (remove from top.....angle brackets drop over frame at bottom) then formers, peel back upholstery, cut metal with snips (and de-burr), re-glue upholstery and re-assemble.

I've got series2 XJ6 seats in my Mk2. Their electrically adjustable for height. Works well, I'm 6'2" and my wife is 5'4", we can both drive in comfort.
