So, um, how long do original Girling shocks last?
By lasting, I mean no leaks, even, hard pull in both directions when out of the car.

By original, I mean probably, with the undercoating on one side of said shocks only.

99,890 on the clock.

Girling made great shocks in my opinion, too bad they went out of business.
My '84 XJ-6 still has the 4 rear factory Girlings. I replaced the fronts with Boge around 1995 and they were a dissapointment from day 1. Never again.
Might as well use Monroe or Gabriel or Sears shocks and end up with a better shock, closer to a Girling. (being a pack rat, I kept the old front Girlings and still have them).

As long as the car doesn't bounce when pushed down, the shocks are OK. No leaks helps. I replaced my MK 1 shocks after 40 years because they were rusted from sitting in a field and were quite bouncy. Now it has been sitting for 10 with a new set of Koni's.
 
mehheh. That reminds me, Larry... I gotta go remove a set of Koni's wot've been sittin' in the Upscale Yard Art for a <span style="font-style: italic">while</span> now... The Spider needs 'em.
