MK1 Seat Repair/Rebuild

So, I jumped into the Spit the other day and got poked in the Arse by one of the springs coming through the seat cushion. I knew they were in bad shape and have been planning on rebuilding them. I took one seat apart and what a mess. The springs and the upper frame are rusted beyond repair reuse.Has anyone sourced these parts? What have other used in place? I would like to stay true to form and avoid a seat conversion (Miata). If I have to, I have a set of Sunbeam Alpine that I can work with.

The mk2 seats are a common sub. They look close to the same.

Something you may look at as well is if you really need the springs and maybe can do it with foam. I haven't taken apart the mk1 seats we just got but I know we will be doing it someday soon.

Pictures would be great to see what they look like.

Mk1 and Mk2 seats are getting harder to find. But I would guess someone may have some extras on the forum.

You might want to check with one of those good old-fashioned upholstery shops. And not just the automotive ones, but also the home furniture places. They may have other ideas. Look for the ones like the guys on "Car Talk" mention when addressing old-school car issues: the ones with the old geezers still working in 'em.

PeterK, Those seats are nice!

I actually found an old baby mattress and took a look at the innards Gonna fiddle this weekend. I will click some pics of what I got. I did find a guy who is making the lower basket.
