I currently run a '77 1500 Spitfire, but am looking at a '67 Mk III, anything different or unusual to watch for on this model

Update on this one. Today I got my Mk3, an early '67 model almost completely stripped, most of the expensive, hard work done, really just a repaint and put back together job, even came with a set of wire wheels

Can't tell you about the Mk III (I'm sure someone here can) but I have a 78 Spitfire myself. Great little cars! Much fun to drive, especially on twisty turny mountain roads!

I own a 67 Spitfire MKIII and all I can say is its a blast to drive. I would imagine comparing a 67 to a 77 the most obvious differences other than 10 years would be the engine size being a 1300cc in a 67 vs 1500cc in your 77. The 1300cc love high revs and would be ideal for racing something I wouldn't recommend with a 1500cc because of the heavier crank. I purchased a set of Panasport wheels for mine and I run Nittos 185/60r13 tires which really set the car off. There is so much you can do with these cars in the way of handling etc. that it makes them a joy to own. I guess your only limit would be money and mechanical ability, but there are a lot of friendly and knowledgeable owners out there just waiting to help.

I had a 1970 MkIII and really loved the way it handled. It's a fairly light car and is very agile. I ran 155-80-13 tires on mine. The only thing I would caution you on is the rear suspension. All the stories about the rear end coming loose, very quickly, in the rain or in a hard turn are true, at least in my experience. You can address this with either a camber compensator, or fitting a later swing spring to your car. Good luck and enjoy.
