Mk II 2.4 engine, value?

In clearing my father's estate, I have come across a Jag MK II 2.4 engine, in 3 crates. History of the engine, unknown, was shipped here by a Navy guy, then my father came across it. S/N is BJ 4648 8

Calm down ! Not NOS...

Looks to be pretty much all there, except for the distributor.
Condition, I would have to say rough. It was stored for about 32 years in wooden crates, head off. Rust in the cylinders, although in my amateur estimation, could be bored clean. Crank and interior of the engine block, dunno. Alloy head looks fine, cams look protected by a nice layer of oily grime.

Any idea of a value? Yes, I know that is hard to say, a conservative guess is all I ask. I just would hate to scrap the engine.

At the very worst, list it on eBay and let it fly to the highest bidder. Better that than the trash heap. Of course there are other better options but that could be a last resort.

I am hoping to make a local sale, and avoid the hassle of re-crating and shipping, as well as allowing potential buyers to assess the motor personally. Not looking to make a mint, but dont want to be taken either.

Then there is condition and history, of which I know very little, a sure way to mess up my 100%+ feedback!

Wish the local Brit car club had an operating website...gonna try a local Brit shop.

a 2.4 engine is for the 2.4 Saloon, also known as the MK-I.

when the MK-II came out, it did with a 3.4 and 3.8 engine mostly, although a few did with 2.4 engines, the Block Number sounds MK-I to me.

you might advertise it in jag-lovers, where there are a few MK-I owners. Also you might tell the story at the Saloons forum, although it is not allowed to advertise in the forum.
You could say, "I want to know more about this engine to sell it in the proper section of the classifieds". That way you don't get banished forever!

I got the MK II info here

While I have a membership at Jaglovers, I really hope to sell locally. I also have a dozen wire wheels, some Honda Goldwings, an early 60's 2bbl DD Weber for a Fiat {others?}, misc Healy, MG, and Jag goodies, and an airplane prop and parts to dispose of.

Oh, and an estate to settle. Crating and shipping will be a nightmare, just went through it shipping two Goldwing side covers and a seat. It was like UPS didnt want to ship stuff, ended up at FedEx.

When condition is questionable, I prefer that a buyer see what I see, not depend on my description.

See why I want to sell locally? Anyone have a rough value for this rough 2.4?

Unfortunately the 2.4 was always a bit underpowered for its application, so people tend to change for the 3.4 and 3.8 units. At least here in the UK a 2.4 unit requiring rebuild is of relatively little value. As scrap prices are increasing it becomes even more tempting for people to weigh them in!
On the flip side of course, if you are the guy trying to get hold of one...

IMHO, something between 250 and 500 dollars would be fair for the complete engine. (At least in the UK)

I was thinking along those lines myself, $250-500. I plan on visiting the last brit car shop in town today, hopefully they will take it reasonably or have some leads. If only the cylinder bores had been slathered with bearing grease...

Scrapping is the absolute last choice, I do have some time luckily.
