Mk 2 wiper motor.

To TOC (Dave),

It sounds like you're going to a lot of trouble to get a used part to work, that should bolt on and work right away. The Jag sedans of the '60's had a wide range of wiper motors, each with their own specs. You may have the wrong one for your car.

If you list your chassis number (leave off the last one or two digits with XXX's if you want to stay private) and we can tell you the exact part number that's supposed to be on the wiper cover. Also, give the part numbers from the original and replacement motor covers.

Phil.

Well.....cost is a factor.
The 2-speed motor I got was off a MK2....but, try to find a RHD MK2 motor stateside.
Buying it out of England with the A) higher cost and B) shipping is not on.
The BIG issue was finding documentation on the variations of RHD and LHD.
I knew about flipping the park switch, finally found the part about reversing the field wires, and that did it.

The one that came with the car is WRONG.
Two spade terminals sticking out the top cover, no "hole" for wires, some moron removed the park wire and part of the park switch, it was a 120 degree gear, and single-speed.

Morris Minor?

Anyway, this one seems to work just fine now.
Waiting for the next monsoon to be certain.

30+ years of gas station maintenance is what I am fighting.

You never know what you are going to find.

From that chassis number, you have a RHD 2.4 MK2. All MK2 RHD have the same wiper motor. (All LHD MK2's use a different motor.) The part number on the cover should be 073144 for RHD. One of the big problems with replacing the unit is getting the wires connected correctly. After 40+ yeras they lose their colors and all turn brown. You have to strip some of the black plastic wire cover back, spray the newly exposed wire with a cleaner, then make an educated guess on colors.

If you can't sort things out and need another motor, send me an email. I work in a Jag rest shop and we parted out a number of right and left hand drive mk2's over the years. The chances that we saved a wiper motor before the crusher got it are slim, but you never know what lurks in the barn.

The exchange rate is as follows:

1 complicated Jaguar part (but useless to us) = 2 cases of beer + $10 to BCF. (I'm not much of a beer drinker, but the boss is.)

But then, you seem to be on the road to having things sorted out.

Phil.

Wire colours were not an issue (well, two were, but I determined one was hi and one was low, and I got it right first time).
Yes, RHD 2.4L.
The "trick" is not just to flip the park switch but to reverse the field.

Just wish that data was easier to find than the two weeks + it took, but I have it now!

Thanks.
Dave

David Manners, RHD MK2 motor, $226US plus shipping, and I can't afford that.
