Hi all, I'm thinking of purchasing one of those automatic battery trickle chargers from Moss Motors. I hope this is the last winter I pull the battery, what a P-I-T-A!! My questions are , has anyone bought one of these? If yes, are you happy with it? And where is the optimum place to install it?

No not Moss. any auto parts store or marine supply house will have ones that cut on and off at trickel levels for battery maintance. Not expensive. Less than 20 bucks as I remember.

I got an Eliminator battery maintainer from Canadian Tire...Just hooked it up on the Jag this afternoon....The only problem with it is that you've gotta leave the ignition on; since it charges through the cigarette lighter. I don't wanna leave the keys in the car all winter, so I am gunna turn it on every few weeks to keep the battery up as neccessary..........Pulling MG batteries isn't that bad(try doing it with no room to open the doors) so I just pull all of those every year.

Hi Xsteamer, for the price Moss is asking for that charger, which IMOP is not the proper type for long term storage use, you can purchase a good automatic "Float Type Charger". I personally like the battery minder series but there are others. Check on the webb and you will see a number of this type being offered at or below that price range. If you do not have a cigar lighter in the car then just clip directly across the battery. Generally, several type connectors are provided---Fwiw--Keoke

Yup. What Keoke said. "Battery tender" is one popular brand name that comes to mind. If the battery charger is not an automatic float charger, you can easily do more damage to your battery than good if you keep it plugged in.

/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/iagree.gif Like fry the battery, the battery box, the car, the garage, etc., holding it all. The charger in my Catalina went bad on me one winter, and only by luck did I go to the marina and notice the smell of the batteries bubbling away the last of their electrolyte. 'Twas my own fault for using the stuff I'd inherited from the DPO instead of following my insincts and getting a better charger. Same could happen here with the wrong charger on board.

Boy, been there done that. Kind of scarry wasn't it. hehe.

Walmart is selling a charger-maintainer for $14.00 made by Black & Decker.

Yes Jack, there are several of them on the market in that price range. However, the thing I like about the Battery Minder is it also includes a desulfation circuit which can save a marginal battery or prevent the occurrence in a good one.---Keoke

Hehe, change batteries when the warenty runs out, you'll never have a problem. But not one extra day or you will walk.
