TR2/3/3A MIssing Zerk fitting?

A new TR3A owner asked me the other day "How do I get at the zerk on the
propeller shaft spline collar without removing the transmission cover?"
Huh? I've been pumping grease into my 3A for a looong time & never
found that one. I removed the front u-joint access plug & peered back there.
Couldn't see any zerk. I jacked up a rear wheel & had Mama spin it
slowly while I stuck a finger back there as far as I could. Nothing. So,
my question is: Is there really a grease fitting back there or is the (TR2) lube
chart lying to us? And if there really is one, how did one get a grease gun on it?

Frank

Originally there were grease zerks front and back, but uni joints may have been replaced along the way with aftermarket items without zerks.

My lube chart shows them both - Item R, 3 or 4 strokes with gun/Castrol LM grease.

TR2/3 had an exposed rubber access grommet at the rear of the transmission tunnel, but for TR3A/B the carpet covered the grommet and had to be peeled back for access.

Frank - are you missing that zerk?

I've got it on mine - remember cleaning and greasing them all.

As noted -- should be there -- and you may need to get creative with a right angle grease gun attachment to get to it.

They use a short stubby zerk there so it does not get shearedoff when the drive moves. What I do when lubing is temporarily remove the stubbyone and put a long one in and put the stubby back when done.

Oops, I see the dirty photo didn't show well in the upload. Hear it is cleaned up so you can see it...

John & George,
My friend and I thank for your photos and suggestions...I was searching further aft on that collar & completely missed
it right under my nose. Temporarily inserted a 45 degree zerk & "problem solved" I'm glad it's not a true
moving part since it hasn't seen any grease for 50K plus!!
