That makes me think of an episode of "Night Gallery" ( or like it),
where Tony Curtis was involved with a contest where the aliens were protesting
the same thing.
 
Of Gilligan's Island where they were doing a beauty contest and he passed over all the girls and voted for a gorilla, with the explanation that this was the only "native" islander..
