Mirror stem height

Hello all,
I'm sure this mirror situation has come up here a few times.

What is the stock stem height on the later BJ8 dash mirror?
From the bottom of the base to the top of the ball in MM.

A friend of mine wants to raise his.
There are aluminum riser blocks some sell.
There are some taller stems out there too. Finding the right one with the screw holes at 39mm and a stem that is not too tall, too short or with an adjustable stem reminds me of the Goldie locks and the 3 bears tale. I have a longer stem, but he does not want one as tall as mine. Go figure.

Links to the perfect stem would be appreciated.
Cheers,
Roger

Moss sells an add on base with or without a clock in it to raise the mirror about 1 1/4 inches or so. The present mirror mounts on top using the same holes with longer screws. Probably easy to make with a nice walnut or black vinyl cover.

Thanks TH,

I mentioned that in my post.
"There are aluminum riser blocks some sell."

He's looking for a stock looking stem, not an add on block.

Hey Roger,
These guys have a couple different sizes including an adjustable one. Holden

Hey guys,

Does anyone have a stock mirror on their car?
Would someone please take a messurement of the stem for me?
Please.

Thank you,
Roger

You should tell your friend that if he raises the height of his mirror, and has wing mirrors above the wheels (as many healeys do), he won't be able to see his opposing wing mirror anymore....

Dont ask how I know this....

Roger,
The length of the square type mirror (not latte BJ8's) from the bottom of the base to the center of the morror mounting ball on top is 2-5/8". Hope this helps and have a good day!

John

I have been meaning to ask you about yours since your latest video. I bought a replacement mirror, thinking I could manufacture a longer stem for it, chrome it, install etc. But I could not even figure out how to get the stem removed from the mirror; it seems the glass pops into this plastic back thing and does not ever want to let go. I ended up crumbling some of the mirror glass edge just trying to pry the plastic off. Another great idea nipped in the bud.

So:
- how did you get your longer stem?
- how tall is the one on your car?
- how tall is the spare you sound willing to part with?

I want what looks like a stock BJ8 mirror with a slightly higher stance (no cheesy block riser), which is exactly what you seem to have. True?

Thank you John for taking the time to measure it.
Yes, it helps a lot. I need to know what the stock stem height is when searching for a taller one for comparison.

Cheers,
Roger

1. I don't remember where I got my stem from. I'll search thought the, I can't believe I've spent this much, 4" Healey restoration binder.
2. Bottom of base to middle of ball, 4 3/4"
3. How much money you got?

Tom, we think alike. I wanted a taller stem, stock looking.
And this is what my friend wants too. Somehow I got roped into doing all the research to find one, like mine, but a tad shorter. No problem I said. I've got people. (people, aka BCF)

Cheers,
Roger

Randy Harris, is this true for you also? You have an adjustable taller mirror stem and wing mirrors.
