minor engine kit. is it possible???

i just received a catalog from an mg vendor.
they offer a minor engine kit that includes:
piston rings, camshaft, lifter set,rod bearing set,oil pump, timing chain a tensioner, gaskets. in the catalog they state "if you are going to pull the head and the oil pan to change the cam it only makes sense that you put in new piston rings, rod bearings, and an oil pump".
did i miss something here?
since when did you have to remove the oil pan to change the cam?
it also states all of the above can be done with the engine left in the car(???).
i'm kinda confused. removing the distributor and
drive dog needs to be done to replace the cam,
not to mention the timing cover, sprockets, ect...
but not the oil pan. right?

but I wouldn't do it in the frame. If you are gonna do rings, you prolly need to bore the cylinders, or at the very least hone them

Everybody lies!!

Nah, they are just optimistic!! It can be done in the car, but why would you?? You are about 15 minutes from pulling it!! (the engine

come on down Gary. I got a brand new crane, a broken leg, and two engines to pull

ok, so the cam has a gear on it for the distributor as well as the oil pump. they share the same one? right or wrong?

i dont understand how you can get the cam out with the engine in the car......doesnt it slide out from the front?

Well I just had my first laugh of the day (rough day) as I read the bottom of Kmcormick9 message. Thanks for the laugh. Oh, yeah I didn't think you could do all of that with the engine in. I would like to see someone try or maybe help.

Well, looking at the B, pulling all that stuff out with the engine in situ is possible, if very difficult. After all, there's an awful lot of space in front of the radiator (which would also have to come out, methinks) to pull out the camshaft. Still, I'd rather have the engine out of the car, on a stand, where I can get at everything.
