Minilite or minilite style wheels

Hi- new member from MT:

I'm wanting to put a set of knock-off style minilite wheels on my BJ7. Anybody have any experience with wheels other than the "true" Minilite wheels? If so , is there a reasonable source out there for this style of wheel? I just put an add in the classified section, so new or used would suit me just fine.

Regards,

Jim

Hi Jim, several of my club members run the Minilite or look alikes on their cars. I would suggest that you talk with British Wire Wheel personnel here on the West coast or Hendrix wire wheel on the East coast. They may be sources for the wheels you seek.--Fwiw---Keoke

Thought of doing this, the problem is that 5.5" 72 spoke wires weigh 11Kg, aluminium Minilites weigh 11Kg, magnesium Minilites weigh about 30% less, but cost ÂŁ500 ($1000) each.

Well Ajax50, why not go with the Ali wheels they are stronger than the wires and safer than the Magnesium ones?---Keoke

I have a set of the ones sold by Moss or AH Spares on my BJ7 and love them. I like the look and they are EASY to keep clean. No worries about loosening spokes, out of round, etc. I can't see a reason to spend for true Minilite's

you may want to look into Panasport wheels. I'm not sure if they offer a wheel that will fit your car but they look a lot like minilites and are beautiful and engineered to be round and strong. I had a set on my elan (sadly I sold it).
