Mini Spare Tire

Has anyone figured out if a modern mini (donut) spare can be adapted to a Healey? I just finished a ground up restoration and my car never came with a spare. I'd love to keep more space in the boot.

I have 'Minilite' style knockoff wheels. I thought the adapter could be used but it has 8 bolts.

Thanks for any help.

Well:IMOP

A "usable" mini spare on a Healey is not going to increase usable space in the boot by that much.

Mini spare in trunk just in case you get a flat. Need the mini so you can pack more into the trunk, which you do. So far, so good. Now you get the flat. And you still have all that stuff + a full size regular wheel/tire. Hmmm...

People used to fix flats by the side of the road. Granted that's a pretty scary operation these days but how about this. I just bought a Chevy Spark EV. It comes with no spare but what they do "give" you is a small electric compressor and a pressurized container of tubeless tire sealant and you are supposed to fix your flat. At least for the time being I have added a plug repair kit which I'd be more inclined to use by the roadside over the sealant goo. I threw one in the boot of the Healey at the same time. Oddly enough, I have a donut spare from another car that I pulled out when I put a full sized spare in the trunk. Bolt pattern matches the Spark and I'll see if that will work this weekend. In their infinite wisdom, Chevy also put different sized rims on the front from the back so you can't diagonally rotate wheels. Even some of the Chevy dealer shops don't know that.

Great point about still having to stow your wheel and tire that is flat. Wouldn't want to abandon your mini-lite by the side of the road :sorrow:

I got the compressor/sealant package instead of a spare with my Mustang. My sealant has an expiration date--not that it works that well anyway--and the kit in your Spark probably does too.

2017 Kia Sportage has the compressor/sealant also. We were trying to remember the last time we had a flat in one of our 'regular' cars - 2 times the last 20 years or so spread ove 5 cars.

Tire spoons and a spare tube? check. Flat rock to prop under the Shelley jack so it's tall enough to remove wheel ? check. Cell phone to call flatbed since I have free towing with insurance? check.

I went on a 2000 mile trip with some friends in Miatas. 2 Days in we were comparing notes on packing tricks. One fellow admitted that he left out the spare because he know he could borrow one from the rest of us. Then we found out that most of the group had relied on the same trick!
