Mini lite and tires

I've finally ordered the last of the major items a full front and rear suspension rebuild and I still have some money left in my budget. I am thinking about buying a set of 4 14" mini lites to replace the rostyles and I am wondering who would have the best prices on a new set.

With the new set of rims I will need tires and I am wondering what the current favorites are.

This post made under the heavy influence of turkey

Stewart, you might try Victoria British. If you order is over $1000., shipping is free. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/hammer.gif

Great British Car Parts seems to have the best prices on mini-lite style wheels that I've seen. they're roughly $540 for a set of 4 14x6 wheels. That's a little wider than stock wheels, but I'm pretty sure they also have or at least can get 14x5.5 since they do carry 15x5.5. They sell on eBay too... I'm not sure if that really matters, but I thought it was worth mentioning. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Call Steve. He is the official importer for the US.
Knock-off copies are only just that - nothing like the real thing.

I just picked up a set of old Carroll Shelby 15x5-1/2 Mini-lite clones off an old Saab...$300 for 5!

Nice score. I've got my eye on a used set that just popped up on eBay about a mile or 2 from where my B is sitting.

Other questions as I dig through the links. I have seen different offsets offered for the rims and what would the correct or correct range for the 14 inch and the 15 inch rim?

There was a set on eBay last week - I bid $321...lost them at $404...then, immediately found this set about 300 miles away...they're in the back of my pickup right now!

I suppose your mind is made up but I would keep the original wheels. Put the money somewhere else. Someday those originals will be what everyone wants.

Stewart,

I think I mentioned to you that I'd gotten my minilites at propermg,..I really like them,..currently $650. for 4,..free shipping. I got 5, so that I had one for the spare /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif

As for tires,.my mechanic had recommended a set of Michelin,...unfortunately the model hade been discontinued.
I opted for Michelin Hydro-edge,..and I've been really happy with them /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif They look good, handle well and eliminate almost all road noise.

Good Luck,

Jerry /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/cool.gif

Thanks for the link Jerry I will give them a call next week. The tires have pretty good reviews on tirerack and I will start pricing them out.

I wont be tossing the rostyle rims but I really like the look of the minilites on the older British cars.

I hope everyone will want Rostyles some day, once I put all the Minilites on my car I will have six Rostyle wheels total. I don't plan on selling them anytime soon anyway.

Wheels are expensive. I'm buying the minilite replicas from BV. I'm sure there may be better ones out there, but for the money it works for me. I also live right near BV, so I can just go and get them when I have an extra $215, which is the cost for them with tax. I went with 15" wheels. Its more expensive to do it my way of course, but I bartend and am self-employed otherwise, so big purchases are reserved for things like home repair or something. BTW, BV will be having a sale on these wheels after the holidays so you may be able to save some money if you wait.

Between all the for the Minilite replica vendors, you can get them in either bolt on or knock off style, in widths from 5.5" to 6.5", and in diameters of 14", 15", 16" or even 17". I like the look of the knock off 'lites, but my car didn't have wires.

Where have you seen 17" Minilites? Though I'm thrilled with my Mustang wheels, I did look for 17" Minis when I started out ...

yeah, I have to agree the knock-off mini-lites are, to put it in modern 'net speak, "ubertastically pimpinly pimptastic"... err.. I really like them too. but they're a darn sight expensive as all heck. Expect to give up some limbs or off-spring for a set of those. Moss has them for $300/each... hmmm not quite as expensive as I remembered... then again that's still $1200 for a set of 4.

superlite-wheels.com has 17" minilite like wheels. They're listed under "Ultralite 3piece" slightly different style... I remember seeing some minilite replicas (closer to original design/style than the ones I just mentioned) in 17" in the past year or so, but can't remember where I saw them.
