Hike out to the desert south of Sedona to shoot the Milkyway. Not entirely happy with this first attempt at processing. Will play around with it more later.

What kind of time exposure is needed to get all that starry stuff?

The image is a composite of two images taken from the same location. The foreground is a 15 second exposure during nautical twilight. The stars were shot with a 4 minute exposure using a star tracker. You align the tracker to true north then the camera will follow the stars to allow a long exposure without and star trails.

A slightly different crop - not as severe as before but still gets rid of distractive rock on the left.
Also some additional processing in LR to better lead the eye to the subject (Bell Rock and Milkyway core)

I like the better emphasis/detail on the foreground, too.
