...caught up with me!

A couple of days ago, I started cleaning up inside the front fender wells of the GRM car to spray some fresh paint (it has to stand a concours judging along with SOLO II & drag race)...decided to disassemble the suspension a bit to paint shocks, etc....PO had done a real goods job rebuilding so there's really nothing that needs to be replaced...however, tonight there's nothing under the car - to include the beam

...pulled it today & sandblasted it...then drilled a bunch of holes to lighten it & primered it...

...guess I'll start putting everything together as I clean & paint it!

Might as well!

What is a GRM car?

Grassroots Motoring... he's building the car for a "challenge" that they have... /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Oops, sorry - Grassroots Motorsports Challenge car....GRM magazine hosts a challenge every year to see who can build the best overall car (SOLO II, drag race, concours judging) for less money than the year....this year the budget is $2006

I've been working on mine for 2 years...lot of ingenuity to build one for such an overall low budget - but can be done

Here's a 'before' photo & one taken last Fall (we've done lots since the last photo)

Here's what I'm shooting for...Al Pease up in Canada raced this front suspension for 20-some years to several Canadian circuit wins...my friend, Mike Adams, is restoring it right now & didn't find any cracks or warpage in the setup!

Lots of weight loss!

Looks great, Tony.

My car is also significantly lightened. Mostly via the large rusted-out holes in the floor panels. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/rolleyes.gif I suppose the added friction of my butt draging against the pavement would more than counter any speed gained by my added lightness.

Best of luck with the GRM!

Ohhhhh That's what GRM means. It all makes sense now.
In that case, I'm rootin for ya all the way!
GO TONY!!!!
I might have to subscribe just to keep up on things.

You sure that chunk of suspension is British... and not Swiss? /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/jester.gif

Sounds like a lot of fun and indeed a challenge. How does one prove they spent only that amount of money?

Bruce

Bruce...you have ot have a receipt for every little itel on the car...even if you already own something you use, you have to assign a value...keeping the budget is harder than building the car....thinking cheap is also hard!

Them Brembo rotors ate a chunk I'd guess. Can you assign a MINUS value to the various bits and the steel you're REMOVING??? /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/devilgrin.gif

I was able to recoup some $$$'s from parts I sold off the car - up to a cedrtain amount.

So having three mirrors on it allowed them to be sold for an offsetting cash flow. How many $$$$ thousands was it? /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/jester.gif

On ebay :

"This very RARE third mirror came from the very RARE 3 mirror MG BGT BE (barnyard edition). This RARE car and it's equally RARE mirror had been home to chickens and rats alike... and raced to great success by pre-teen boys, Elvis and Grace Kelley in the back pasture. Don't miss your chance to bid on this very RARE part. Low, low reserve of $1000.00!"
