Midget Seats

I'm considering options for the seats in my 76 Midget. I'm kinda going with a chrome bumper late 60's Sprite theme. I don't really care for the seats that are in it now. I would like to put some early sprite seats in it. You don't see the complete seats or even pans come along on eBay very often. And when they do come around they go for a pretty penny. I'm afraid it is too expensive of an experiment. Anyone have any experience retrofitting older seats in a 1500? I know the rails are different but I think I can overcome that hurdle as the tub will be bare when I fit them up (hopefully... - right now I'm driving the Midget for the economy as much as for the fun)

Just have your original seats done up by a local shop.
These are out of a late Midget, maybe even the 1500 I parted out last year. I had them done for less than the price of the seat kits the major suppliers sell.
No more head rests, and done up complete with the carpet on the lower back just as a 67 seat was originally.

That may be the best idea. I've considered that one. If I go with the 1500 seats, the head rests are definitely coming off. I've looked at some of the seats summit sells. I didn't find any that I thought would be narrow enough. In the end, I just want seats that will sink down into the car and follow the line created with the top down.

The dimensions on the "classic" model should fit nicely!!

I do like those. Looks like you'll have to make your own seat rails though. MG isn't listed in their option for custom seat rails. I may end up with those if I can't find some original sprite seats. Or, I could just take spritenut's advice. Luckily I've got a year or so to decide. Still planning the teardown phase right now.

Be careful of getting seats with too big of side bolsters. It makes ingress and egress much more challenging.

Be real careful on width. Someone on here bought a set of those "race car seats" advertised on E-bay and found out they were way too wide to fit in a Spridget. My Miata Seats are going to be installed as soon as I get back from vacation in FL at the end of the month. They've been occupying space in my Spridget Mobile Parts Storage Unit(a Suburban 2500) all winter while sanding and painting has been going on in the garage and now that that is almost finished in they will go. They stayed nice, clean, & dry as the Spridget Mobile Parts Storage Unit remains immobile most of the time. I'm dreading filling that 42 gallon tank to pull the boat out of storage this week and getting it ready to head for the lake.

JC -

I have the early seats (I have an early car). I had to fab the seat rails to fit with the re-do of the interior. I permanently mounted them all the way back (I'm 6'1") so having too much leg room is never a problem.

It's pretty easy if you ahve to go that route. Whether you find older seats or re-do yours - it's an easy process.

I remember the race seats that someone bought. I can't remember who or which seats but I remember they were severly disappointed. I would measure and figure quite a bit before I spent that kind of money.
Thanks for all the advice,
JC
