midget rear brake shoes adjusters

I am removing and replacing the rear brake shoes on my 76 midget ( this is the first time on this car ). What is with the brake shoe adjuster tappet and wedges. These things are frozen solid. I did get the drums and shoes off. Are the wedges suppose to move in and out as you turn the adjuster, one does the other does not. I ruined the end of the tappets trying to get them to turn. I see Moss sells replacements, do they just screw out or is the a trick to removing them?
Thx for the assistance.

They should screw out to the outside of the backing plate. Seem to always get frozen from lack of use.

After you have freed-up the sliders the spreader will thread out (away from the car) thru the hole but obviously you need to free the second slider first.

The wedges are just loose in their slots - they will slide out.
