Midget Radio Woes

Hi all.
Does anybody know if there are "special" sized radios for my 1979 Midget? I went to crutchfield.com to find a radio/cd and according to them they don't have a radio that fits! Is this bogus information? Will any "standard" size radio/cd fit in the center console space?
Also, does anybody know where I could get a wiring diagram for the radio harness that is there now? (i/e what colors go to what)
Thank for any help!!! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/blush.gif

Re: Midget Radios

Most current CD head units are too wide to fit in the little center console of the RB Midget. When I had my '76, I replaced the original radio with the cheapest Audiovox tape player at K-mart, and it was too narrow...(bear in mind this was in 1991, and in dash CD players were way expensive). There really ain't much wiring to a Midget radio-there's the antenna cable (which plugged into the back of the head unit), a power wire, and whatever wiring goes to your speaker setup. The PO had put a couple of 6X9s in the particleboard trim that separated the trunk from the cockpit, and simply ran speaker wire under the carpets to the raido....

Re: Midget Radios

Thanks for your reply William.
My cars PO also installed 6x9's and a cheap radio. The radio is total crap, hence the reason I'm radio shopping. I pulled the console out last week and there appeared to be many more wires (6 or 7) connected than what you've described. I'm sure I'll be able to figure out the hook up but thought I might find someone who knew the exact relation of the colors of the wires...(i/e blue with white stripe = accessory power)
Thanks again.
