Midget MK1 fuel tank in a 1500?

Brian has generously offered me a tank form his Mk1 Midget. Will it fit? Are there any gotchas?

It fits but holds 1 gallon less.
The sender is different too. You may have to bypass the voltage stabilizer for the older style tank sender, might need the old style gauge too.

Morris, I have a 1500 tank, but it has not been cleaned and I have not examined it closely. Do you want me to inspect it?

Trevor,

Yes, please take a look at that 1500 tank for me when you get a chance.

Thanks!

I'll take a look this afternoon. I have someone here whose laptop just crashed and apparently he has documents on it to solve all the worlds problems because he needs them NOW. /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/wink.gif

I am an IT manager and rebuild, restore computer and recover data all the time off HD's, if you need recommendations on programs to use to recover the data let me know, or need the programs. Or if you can't get it recovered send me the drive and I can do it here.
Hope you get the info back.

I also have a tank from a 73 midget that I just replaced. It is sound just needs to be cleaned up, was going to do that when I have more time. But if someone wants it let me know. Can give the dimensions and foot print for it if someone needs on.

Thanks Dan, I feel confident I have the tools I need. I've done this a "few" times. /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/smile.gif But if this stumps me like my Bugeye suspension problems, I might be giving ya a call. So far it is looking pretty straight forward.

Hah! I am in computer HADES right now. I borrowed a computer from work to build my media center/pvr. It is the center of my family's entertainment universe. Anyway, work asked for their computer back, and I am trying to build a new system to run my PVR. I bought a new mobo and case. To save money, I bought an older mobo that will use all my existing components... only problem: it won't boot to bios. Darn! I bought another old mobo annnnnnd... same problem! I can take all the components out and put them in other systems and they fire right up.

I am pulling my hair out!

Any sage IT advice for me?

Ok #1 , when you install the New MB, just install the CPU and heat sink (Fan) connect the power to it. when you push the power button does it go beep beeep beeeeep and then repeat? if so it is passing th initial post and is giving you a memory error (Since you have none in it) now install the memory. Power up does it still beep? if so it is incorrect memory assuming that the CPU works with the MB. I will PM you with my Phone number to get more info.

Well I thought I was going to get to go look at that tank, but now he wants me to reinstall his OS too. Arrrg!!! I should have had more billable hours on the data recovery then I'd be free.

I promise to get to the tank this afternoon.

OS, anti-virus, firewall reinstalled and updated, advised client to reinstall rest of software himself.
OK, went and pulled the tank out of storage. Little rustier than I remembered. I don't have access to bead blasting cabinet here at my home, but I can hit it with a wire wheel tonight and see how thin the metal is. The inside has the usual crude and will need to be boiled out over the coals.

Morris, you can have it for the cost of shipping + a few beer tokens for my trouble.

You can decide when I report back after it meets the wire wheel.

It has a few spots where the pitting is a little deep, but if you boil it out and put some sealer on the inside it would be fine. One bottom quarter has a slight dent but nothing of consequence.

Personally, I would trust it. However, you will be out the cost of shipping and some tank cleaner and sealer. Therefore you need to compare it to the cost of a replacement tank.

Let me know what you want to do.

I'm going to hazard a guess here and say that no one will ship a tank that hasn't been boiled already

It doesn't have even a faint smell of gas. It gas been empty for MANY years. Since 1987 I believe.

Thanks Trevor.

I am pretty slammed until next week. I will call around and get some prices for boiling and lining the tank then and let you know.

As we say in Texas:

'Preciate cha.

BTW, mine has an extra fitting by the filler that I do not see in the picture.
