midget Alternator pic

I'm putting another engine in my 1500 Midget. I took the alternator of the old one, thinking I was paying attention to how it was bolted on. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/confused.gifNow it doesn't really seem to fit or look like I remember. Does anyone have a pic or could take a pic of what it should look like on the engine.

I've put the bolts where they fit, but just to repeat in layman's terms, I think I screwed it up!

This is only the first of what I think will be many other stupid questions. If you find this one entertaining,... Just hold on to your hot sauce, cause I think it's gonna get worse before it gets better or maybe better before it gets worse... /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/tongue.gif
Thanks.

I tried to find a pic - I can't If you can post a pic of what you have done, I can probably see where it sisn't work. JP

What year MG 1500 do you own? I don't have any pictures but I own a 76 Midget and would be glad to take some pictures for you. My Midget is not a California model so I don't have a smog pump. Provide your email address and I'll send some to you.

Hope this works.

No, I don't have a smog pump, or at least I won't after this. It's a California Midget, but the new engine is not. Yes if it will help, I'll can post a pic tomorrow of what it looks like now. I didn't before because being unfamiliar with the components, I wasn't sure how you'd be able to explain what I need to do.

Wow Phireman, that pic had me totally confused for a minute. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/confused.gif
The pic must've gotten reversed!! Those 1500's always get me.
Nice looking motor by the way....

Hey Phireman,
Thanks. It's not a bad pic. I needed more of the places where it actually attaches to the engine, but I'll take it and look at mine tomorrow. cause I'm not sure if mine is attached to that engine lift thing at the top. But I've taken it off and on so much, I really don't remeber what I've tried. It's at a friends house and it's now night time here, so I'll let you know tomorrow

Nope, not reversed. That's pretty much the way I remember it. But you're right that Phireman's is looking really nice.

Don't forget, 1500's have everything "reversed" I have my engine mostly stripped down ant this point and should be able to take pictures to help. I'll check for your pic after church.

JP

Thanks for the compliment, guys.

I'm really enjoying my second foray into the LBC community.

Did you ever get the alternator resolved?

No, here are some bad cellphone pics. Can anyone tell anything from these?

Mario, I'm still trying to find some free time, but I'm having trouble getting out from under "dad obligations". I also promised Jackie that I'd paint the living room (for over a year)... so that is my current project. It onvolves painting the trim and all the built-in shelves, wet-bar, etc. Anyway, you really need to get in direct touch with Jimmy Brashear. His midget would be a good example and he is very knowledgable.

I've got a 1500 midget as well and looking at your pic I'm not sure what I'm looking at. The Alt should be attached to the block at the bottom - this is you pivot point. The top of the Alt should be bolted to an adjustable bracket that doubles as an engine lift point. This bracket uses one of the water pump bolts on the head. I'll try to find a good pic for you.

This is where the Alt attaches to the engine. It looks like you have a bunch of un-needed stuff under the Alt. (those two brackets your hand is on in the pic) What does the top of the Alt look like? Is it attached to the correct bracket?

The brackets in the cell phone picturre are mounted correctly. The lower attachment points are for the smog pump. Lee's photo is for an alternator mounted without a smog pump. Phil It took me awhile to figure the brackets out as our car came in bushel baskets.

Mario, sorry for chiming in late but would be glad to help if you haven't got it resolved. Will be home Monday night and most of Tues. we could get together if possible. By the way we could have used more Midgets yesterday at Newburgh, only three showed up. Good day as a whole,a lot of sun though. Mario my phone is 937-1229 or 648-1496
