Miata lump

Has anyone seen a car with a Miata lump. Not really planning this, but all the recent talk about 4age lumps has got me curious.

The Miata engine is pretty tall, really fills up a B or MGA engine compartment, much too high for a spridget unless you modify the hood (and I would never do that LOL). The Toyota lump fits under the hood, so a nicer installation IMHO.

I've heard the motor is too tall for a Spridget, but I've wondered about that too. Probably a lot of major modifications. It would be great to have a kit to fit the Miata 5 speed transmission to either A series, or 1500. One of the best features on a Miata.

I remember a while back someone has a MGB GT project where they were fitting Miata drive train. Lost touch, but would like to know what happened to it.

I agree, with the price of the Datsun transmissions getting insane, I'd love to be able to throw in a Miata 5 speed!

I put a Miata engine with 5 speed trans into my 65, along with a 'glass bugeye nose and a host of other mods. It took a new transmission tunnel and some notching of the frame rails to fit the 5 speed, and a total removal of the heater shelf and notching of the right hand footwell to fit the engine. It was quite a bit of work, but I'm pleased with the result.

Actually ~HERE~ is a nice example of one.

[edit]-The Mite beat me to it!

Ok Mite. You are to be commended, excellent work.

Love the zues fastners on the bonnet.

I was actually very close to using the toyota 4age (20-valve), but was given a miata druverrain in good nick. I'm going to tryto get 120 or so whp out of her, which should be fine for one of these little cars. The plan is to steal as many of bob's ideas as I can, though I have some ideas of my own.

I have a spare miata gearbox if anyone is interested.

interesting idea. they have a complete Miata drivetrain here https://www.tigerjapanese.com/ for $690 which given the price of a rivergate conversion seems a good deal. I keep looking and dreaming - maybe the next project

yeah I agree the rollbar was a bit goofy. the tuner style rims dont look bad on the car...Im assuming he kept the miata bolt pattern when he changed out the brakes.

...it's time to address the brakes...then again...maybe he always rolls through STOP signs

I've got good brakes on all of my cars, & I STILL roll through stops signs!! :smirk:
Where I come from these are called "California Stops"!
MAYBE I can save some weight by removing all of that "unnecessary brake hardware"?!?! :eeek:

"Cheers!"

Yeah, but you're new to Georgia...before long you're wallet will insist you come to a complete stop...this aint California!

Now, if the locals and GHP would just start enforcing the 'don't live your life in the left lane' law, it'd be a better place.
