Just opened the TC transmission last night......Everything seams to work great and looks nice, clean, with no damage to the gears...How can I check the syncros(without taking the whole thing apart)????Also I noticed the inside of the gearbox is painted...kind of a nasty burnt orange...is this factory or has somebody done this??It looks professionally done.

lil ahead of ya on that one Steve....posted there last night....as of now they're undecided.

Ah, just checked the email and saw that. If that motley crew can't figure it out then no one can! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif

The paint is there from the factory. I believe that they did that to seal things really well and to trap any sand lurking in tiny crevices before the machining was done to the casting. As for the synchro if you can see or measure any distance at all between the face of the ring and the unmachined face of the gear beyond the machined ring cone they are probably okay. Unless of course one is cracked and that is un-likely. As the brass wears inside the ring it moves further up on the gear cone and the distance I am speaking of becomes less and less. Jack

Thanks, i just checked the bills I have from the previous owners...Trans was rebuilt in 1963...the car was put in storage in 1964 so I assume everything should be OK...especially since the car only has 18,000 documented miles.
