Thought some of you would like to know. I'm the guy who two weeks ago tonite got my CGT run off the road and damaged. Bumped into the adjustor today and he said USAA had just called him for a few details...and they were going to call me in a day or so to tell me my C is a write off. Now I guess I wait and see what the offer will be.

A moment of silence please /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/frown.gif

Sorry to hear that.

I hope it's enough to buy a "new" one.

Condolences. Don't get short changed.
But then everyone already said that.
I hope you get it all squared way without going too postal.

Are you gonna buy it back & rebuild?

It's a sad day when any of our babies get damaged. This is a call to all of us to make sure we are insured to a replacent value. When I do my mods. this summer, I'm going up 5 thousand in insurance. Any C is a car that I'd consider to own. They are just neat! Good luck on the outcome.

Jack, I read your story yesterday and had an experience of my own very similar to yours.

I went to the gas station in my B and pulled up to a pump behind a Suburban. The lady was getting into her vehicle just as I pulled up.

Today, the run-on that my '77 has turned out to be a blessing in disguise. While I waited for the run-on to cease, I noticed that her backup lights came on and were heading towards me. I had barely enough time and engine run to jam into reverse and get the heck out of there before she barreled backward. Back into my old spot.

She came back out of the vehicle, completely oblivious to my car having been where hers was now. I thought about saying something, but I was just too glad that my vehicle and I weren't provincial pancakes. I came out lucky after all, I think.

Thanks everyone. I will buy it back, no matter what it costs..and I've found two GTs for sale fairly close by. Both are red with black interior and beautiful. Since getting back from a much needed mini-vacation to one of our NM State Parks, I'm rested and calmed down. I spent most of the day making a spot in my shop for the C to reside till I can locate parts, may replace it(for a short time) with a Mustang GT vert I found. Not as classy but fast and fun...and just right to go trolling for rice racers.

Jack, I followed the thread after your first post and am very sorry to hear of this outcome. We were all hoping for a much happier ending.

Two years ago I did quite serious front end damage to my TR4a in a racing accident, and since there was no insurance on track events I faced some tough financial decisions.
The early quotes started at $10,000 and I had reason to believe I would be asked for more when the job was underway and it was too late to back out, as additional, hidden damage was sure to surface as the car was disassembled.
I eventually decided to purchase a donor car from a desert state, and do as much of the work myself as possible to keep costs down. After selling off duplicate and unneeded parts and p[aying for professional painting and chassis repairs I have spent about $13,000, but will end up with a very nice restored car, completely rust free, and much better than the car I started with.
My car is not unit construction like yours, and the damage was different, but I hope my success may inspire you to buy back the car and use your settlement to restore it. It would be a shame to lose another of these fine cars.
Good Luck!
Simon.

I plan on keeping the car and doing the work myself. My shop has plenty of room, can fit at least 16-18 cars without crowding. I have a pal with an alignment shop and thats the first stop, After that, pull the rack, rear end, exhaust etc. Am on the hunt for new 72 spoke, 15 inch wires...would like to go chrome this time. The engine purrs and trans still shifts flawlessly but will pull assy. and check it out. Also need a new radiator, front bumper, grille, lower valance and maybe a rt. frt. fender. Also...my new fuel dist. for my 911s arrived so if that fixes my problem on that car..I can at least get rid of the rental car from USAA and drive the Porsche...not as cool as the CGT...but close:>.

Porsche is CIS? Personally I like that better than later EFI cars. Hope ya get the 911 on it's feet quickly.

Considering the Alfas have L-jetronic from 1982-1986... probably just before that. in 1987 or 88, Alfa switched to Motronic.
