I have a problem with a 1974 MGBGT that I recently aquired. I can't get it to run without hooking a hot wire up to the coil. the key switch will turn the starter but won't put fire to the coil. I bought a universal key switch and It will start the car now, but nothing else works. the lights, heater fan etc. also the brake light stays on all the time, even with the key out of the ignitiuon. any help???

uh oh, gremlins.. I can't speak to your specifics unfortunately..

Are you referring to the brake light on the dash? or at the rear of the car?

The rear shouldn't be hooked into the switch at all..

I would sit down with your wiring diagram and trace teh wires you connected.. Nothing fancy about that..

Anyway, there is an accessory position on the original switch that you must have missed when you wired the new switch, find it, and your heater, etc will work. Your headlights are not on the switch, fyi

I know they're pricey but why not replace the original, and avoid wiring nightmares..
