I have a 74 B that needs a new windshield and I am told by my manual and several people that I need to remove the dash in order to do this. I would like to remove the enntire windshield with frame but ifthat is a a problem would like to just replace the glass but have been informed I canot do tha teither without removing the dash (facia) ??

Any suggestions would be appreciatged.

I believe you can remove the windscreen frame by itself without removing the dash. Do a search, I know there's a couple hundred posts here about removing and re-installing the windsheild frame. Good luck, and I hope you have a couple buddies that will work for beer. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smirk.gif

Hey Ron,
You don't have to remove the dash. A friend showed me a trick. You can get to the left side bolt by removing the upper left idiot light in the dash(I think it is the brake failure or alternator light about 2 inches long and rectangle). You can remove the bolt with a long ratchet extension and a 14 MM socket(I know MG's don't have any metrics but it worked). The right side can be spotted by removing the glove box. It is a 2 person job to get it back in, but 1 person can remove it.
Good Luck
Rick

Ron, Do what Rick says as it's the easiest way to do the job without removing the dash. Second, have a can of silicone spray handy to wet the rubber seal while putting it back in the frame work. Don't get any in the glass groove of the rubber. You want this to stay dry. If you are using the old seal, the job should be a snap. A new seal,[which I would recommend],will be a little tougher. Make sure you have help! It's not a one person job. PJ

Thanks for the input re removing the windshield. While the forum was down I figured it out using some of the ideas you mentioned.

I'm hoping the beer for friends idea was the best one /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif
