MGB-GT MGB vs MGBGT leaf springs

I am going to replace my rear springs and shocks this winter. I saw a pair of springs on Ebay for a 74 GT ...I have a Roadster, and the seller says they will fit the Roadster too. Looking at the Moss catalogue, I see that the Roadster are 6 leaf and the GT 7 leaf. I am a big guy and wouldn't mind the stiffer ride and higher stance, if they fit. Does anyone really know if I can use the GT 7 leaf springs on my Roadster? Will I need to swap to different bushings, bolts or shackles? It look like they are the same for other parts.

They will fit, but they are much stiffer and will sit high. I run standard roadster springs with poly bushings and am very happy with the ride and handling.

Well, even though they have an additional leaf & might be a bit stiffer if new....used ones probably wouldn't affect the ride to any noticeable affect....&, they might lift your car back up to wherre it should be before the old springs flattened out some....I wouldn't pay much more than $25 or $30 for the pair though as I sell used springs for that price all the time!

Tony has a great point. I would trust him to pick out a good set before I’d go with someone I don’t know on eBay.

Used springs or any used suspension components would seem to me to be a bit of a gamble. While I’d trust Tony not to give me some sort of junk. You have to compare the cost to the risk of buying someone else’s junk. To me the overriding question would have to be; why is the seller selling these springs in the first place?

I have a pair of old beat-up leaf springs that I could sell too that came off of my 78B. but I’d feel guilty as sin and wouldn't sleep at night. They are currently sitting in a pile awaiting the next dump run.

Cheers!

Yea...I agree..I have been burned on Ebay a couple of times, but was really wondering about using the 7 leaf setup from the GT on my Roadster since I haul 500 lbs. of people and parts everytime my wife and I go out. Thanks for the info. I will have to check with Tony and see if he has a good pair, or break down and buy a new set from Moss, sometime in the next couple of months, since I plan to do this sometime over the winter. I don't have the time to do it now.
