MGB MGB VIN and ENGINE #'s

Hi All, According to Moss Motor's B catalog, my B's VIN makes it a 1971. How ever the engine is an 18GH, which is shown to end in 1970 production. Other than getting a British Hertitage Build Certificate, is there somewhere else to check numbers? Also a number of times on this forum, it's been written that the 1969 B is the best of all. Why? Thanks, Mike

Possibly a "Gold Seal" engine?

My preference is for a 1966-67 B as "the best" but that's just my opinion.

Engine's are interchangeable...yours mght have been replaced over its life somewhere.

'69's aren't necessarily the best - they're just different.

Beep Beep, Bugeye comming through.

The engine in my GT was replaced by the dealer a year after delivery. It happened back then from time to time. The number still fits within range that I did not notice it till I was going through the very complete service history that came with it.

The Heritage certificate is really the only place to find out what the original engine number was.... Maybe they had a leftover GH that they stuck in?
