I pulled the engine yesturday. Today I took the engine apart form the transmission. I took the pressure plate off and metal bits started falling out. The problem was with the clutch disk, first off, it was worn to the rivets, secondly, 1 of the 5 springs was broke, and 2 more weren't even under tension, finally the metal bits I mentioned before were Little clips that slide inside the clutch disk. I'll get a new clutch disk and pressure plate, throwout bearing, pilot bearing(is there one?), and new seals for the transmission because they're leaking. I'm going to just do it all once now so I don't end up having to pull the engine again in 6 months to do a throw out bearing ect. While the engines out the engine bay will get a nice shiney coat of paint after a good scrubbing. Thanks for everyones help.

Thanks again
Robert

Fairly obvious here, but I'll say it anyway.

No mater how good the face of the flywheel looks, take it to a machine shop and get it resurfaced.

Makes the new clutch last much longer, and has the added benefit of making the flywheel lighter.

Even if they only take a little off, it will help with throtle respons. The flywheel on MGB engines has WAY more weight to it than is actually needed...

Just a little hint - make sure the throwout bearing clips are nice and tight and dont move up and down - if they do you will hear some real ugly chunking noise every time you let off the gas. The voice of experience - also if you change from a carbon to a bearing throwout bearing be sure and get the right pressure plate. If not you will have to cut out the carbon bearing rubbing surface from the pressure plate. I also had to use a small spring from the throwout lever to the hyd cyl to keep the bearing in the far back position - it helps reduce some of the bearing noise.
