MGB mgb starter

Has anyone tried using the Isuzu starter gear reduction starter, part number 16878, on an early MGB. Mine is a '66 converted to 12V. This starter does mount perfectly to the motor, but I'm not sure if the clockwise rotation is correct. Is the rotation noted from looking at the gear side of the starter or the side that points toward the front of the motor? Any input would be great. Also, there is an additional wire that also comes out of the starter. Where does that connect to?? Solenoid or ignition switch?
Thanks,
Chris

The 66 MGB has an external solenoid(right next to the fuse box in the engine compartment) with one lead going to the original starter. I think the Isuzu starter has a built in solenoid which the extra lead connects to. I was reading an article in the 3/10 Classic Motorsports magazine on gear reduction starters and they said the easiest way is to connect a lead from the big post to the small post on the Isuzu starter and then connect the one lead from the MGB solenoid to the larger post. You are shorting out the built in solenoid on the new starter and using the MGB solenoid.

Just make a jumper wire from the small terminal to the large one on the Isuzu starter. Then connect the large original MGB starter cable to the large terminal on the Isuzu starter. Bob

Thanks to you all.

Chris
