Was sitting in my B last nite, waiting for it to warm up... n got the thinking...

Has anyone shortened the length of the gear shifter?

Is it a hard mod to do?

Can u buy a shorter replacement, or do u need to cut it short, then re-thread it somehow?

You can cut it and rethread. Be careful of the chrome getting caught in the die and marring the new threads. Keep in mind that the shorter you go, the more effort it will take to shift. So I suggest shortening no more than one inch to start and see how it goes.

It's an easy mod my B has had it's gear lever considerably shorter than standard sice before I owned it (see attached photo).

I find it's like working with a side stick controller, the gear change is more a diagonal movement than an H pattern.

Reverse needs to be smacked into position though.

Compared with my C GT the gearbox in the B is quite easy to shift through and has a very light clutch, I certainly wouldn't do the mod on the C which has a much longer movement on the cltch and seems a bit heavier on the gears.

The length as shown in the photos is as short as I would recommend you go and is definitely more than the inch mentioned elsewhere.

regards

Tom
