Hi Folks
I just had my 71 B roadster stripped to bare metal and found out that both the front and rear fenders are in terrible shape. It will cost over 3K to get the body panels in decent shape. So, I'm thinking that it's got to be cheaper to find some used panels (if anyone has some please let me know) and remove the old panels and replace with newer ones. My question is... How do you remove the front and rear fenders? Are they bolted on or welded? If there bolted on is it an easy removal process? If they are welded on what do I have to do to remove them?

Attached are some photos of the affected areas. As you can see the worst fender is the Right Front, it has a pretty large crease.

Thanks for your help.

You can watch eBay for panels. I've gotten a used original rust free rear quarter panel and the interior structure panels fairly cheap and in good condition from eBay use caution though. I have saved close to 600 dollars over the moss prices for the body parts I needed. QP outer wheel well and outer trunk floor.

The rear panel is welded on so your going to have to drill out the spot welds to remove the panel. I'll have greater detail on how its done in a few weeks. The front is bolted on but you will have to remove the windshield to remove the fender but judging from the pick that wont be an issue.

As Stewart said, the front bolt on, the rear are welded. Keep an eye on ebay, they show up from time to time, but bear in mind they are expensive to ship. I went through this myself another idea is to look for parts cars for cheap, pull the fenders and part out the rest of the car. I lucked out and found a pair of Heritage fenders on a parts car.

Thanks for your assistance. I have a 77 parts car but I know that the fenders (wings) are different. Maybe it would be just as inexpensive to put those on and get a chrome bumper conversion kit.

Thanks again.

I think the major difference between chrome-bumper and rubber bumper fenders is in the front grille and parking light area; later fenders coukd probably be adapted without too much fiddling. As far as I know the mounting points, etc. are the same.

You can use chrome bumper fenders on a rubber bumper B. The parking light area is hidden by the rubber bumper. You cannot use the rubber bumper fender on a chrome bumper B.

Try MG Costas in San Antonio, TX for parts. He has good rustfree parts at a reasonable price.

Thanks for all the great advise. I knew this forum was a goldmine of talented friendly folks.
