Lots of rat rods seem to have automatic trannys today. However, that said I should think there are quite a few folks that could only have a B if it was auto.
Does anyone know anything about the original automatic transmissions that are mentioned in the haynes manual on mgb's? Sounds like they had an auto option at one time.
I would like to find one. (for the wife of course) ~

The original MGB automatic transmission was a Borg-Warner type 35. It was originally developed in the US in the 50s and was installed in Studebakers and American Motors cars. The production went to the UK in the 60s and was offered to European auto makers and was used in the MG, Jaguar, Hillman, Singer, Sunbeam Alpine, Daimler-Benz(Germany), Volvo, Ford(Australia) and Chrysler(Australia). Even though it was only a three speed, it was a popular transmission in it's day, but usually for smaller cars. The 4 cyl MGB lacked sufficient power to make it practical. The MGC with it's 6 cyl engine made it a more desirable unit.
I believe 5,000 MGBs were produced with the auto tranny. Most were right hand drives. Very few left hand drives came to North America. An original LHD is rare.
Ford Cortinas used the BW trans, also.
If you're looking for a transmission,please
let me know - there's usually a few around
& the price is usually cheap.
