Being a Triumph guy I apologise for barging in but hoped this would be of interest.
The area I live in seems to be a local centre of British car interest, and motorsport interest. Within 3 blocks are 2 TR6 owners, a Mini racer a restored MGB in what I would call Brooklands Green, and a restoration project "B" 4 houses down.
Peter has got to the point of spraying primer last weekend, and has the paint ready for this weekend.
He bought the car about a year ago for $1500 (non-runner, rubber bumper) and has rebuilt the engine and bought and welded in repair panels, floors and sills. He has used fibreglass front fenders to save money and overall has done a very nice job.
Another car saved from the wrecker! Good for him!(Too bad summer will be over before final assembly and wiring finished.)

Simon, you are never barging in......you are more than welcome on the MG side of the tracks /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif ........the more cross-posting we have on BCF the better it will be. I have been termed a "social butterfly", owning an MGB, but posting messages on each of the boards on a regular basis.

That is interesting information, it's possible to start your own British car club just in your neighbourhood. Just think of the social evenings and group cookouts......I'm glad that your neighbour rescued that 'B'.......a saved car is a good thing, regardless of whether or not he used fibreglass front wings. Spread the word, get them to join BCF as well!!
 
There are a small handful of British cars within 25 miles of me despite being in a highly populated area of Southern California. I'm sure there are more than I think, but they are likely locked in garages for months at a time. It's hard to find people who really like to drive classic cars these days. Most only want to "restore" them with modern engines, flashy paint, alloy wheels, etc and then show off a few times before selling it to someone rich. (end rant)
 
Same here in DFW... there are quite a few LBC owners and a couple of clubs. But summer is always over too soon (except in So Cal). We should all move there... oops... every one already did (or so it seems when one drives the 405 or 60)
 
Over here in old Virginia are a pretty good number of British cars, too. Charlottesville, being a college town, has its share, but you don't see a large number on the roads.

However, on sunny weekends when there's a UVA football game in town (UVA had 3 at-home games on the past 3 Saturdays, all gorgeous days), they come out of the woodwork.

Here's what I saw about town this weekend:

2 MGB roadsters, both chrome bumpers;
1 '50-ish Rolls Royce (Silver Shadow, I think), perfect cond, with a chauffeur driving a couple in the back!;
1 '68 XKE Jaguar, red/tan, one of the nicest ones I've seen;
1 Shelby 427 AC Cobra replica (belongs to a friend);
1 Triumph TR4A IRS, a very nice example;
1 TR6, chrome bumper, with a beautiful, smiling blonde-haired lass driving (BTW, I resisted the urge to turn my car around and follow her)!
1 small mouth Triumph TR2.

I don't think there was a British car show nearby, the football games just seem to bring the cars out.

Tons of fun to see them, brings back good memories of the days when LBCs had dealerships here and were seen just about every day.

Maybe I should start a Triumph dealership?

In my small (7000+) people, about 15 minutes from downtown St. Louis proper, I have seen one 68-70 Cutlass convertible. A '67ish Camaro convertible. An older VW convertible. That's it. And now my MGB. People here would rather drive $50,000 SUV's. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/rolleyes.gif

~nods~ Maybe because I grew up during the "muscle car" era. My first car was a '66 Mustang. But the car I truly wanted when I was in high school was an MGB.

I'd rather drive a 60s-70s, than a '05 Yukon, you know? I know my '03 will sit nicely in the garage as often as possible and I'll be very happy behind the wheel of my 'b.'

Took THE B out this evening. Left about 4, just came home 15 minutes ago. Drove up to my son's, over to the city to my dot's and took her out to dinner, cruised through Forest Park, past my sister's, past my mom's. It's 52 degrees here. People must have thought we were nuts with the top down and that silly grin on our faces! THE B drives like a dream. Listened to classic rock all night and put about 100 miles on this little baby!

I'll never get tired of driving this car. I can't wait til I go to pick out my Christmas tree. The looks I'll get with the top down and a tree hanging out the passenger side will be PRICELESS!!! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/driving.gif
