I'm planning on swapping engines in my '68 GT this winter. I've been reading the instructions (my wife is flabbergasted) in some of the manuals. They say remove the bolts to drop the tranny cross member down. I've looked twice and I don't see the bolts.

Where are they located? Are they hidden in the oil drippings and dirt? I can never find anything. (My wife has to.) Will I have suffer the ultimate indignity and ask her to crawl under it and show me where they are?

Please help!
Lynn

Maybe THIS will help. Look on the outboard ends of the picture for the four bolt holes.

Yup, two each side at the frame rails. There's more "rigging" there once that brace is down. Four more bolts hold the mounts (#4 in the diagram) to the box case.

OH! Those bolts.

This is another case of me not seeing something where I thought they should be (closer to the tranny) so I didn't look farther. Is this some kind of myopia?

Thanks. Life just got easier.

Place a trolly jack under the trans. Once the four outter bolts are undone, loosen the nuts on the mount studs and the two on one of the mount on the gearbox. You will find that the cross-member will drop out.
Cheers,
D.
