I posted this over on the MGBex site, know a few of you bounce back and forth, but thought it was worth mentioning here as well. I have a customer who just bought a very solid 67 MGB GT and had it transported across counrty for me to prepare for the 2008 LeCarrea PanAmerican race in Mexico. This race is a 2000 mile road rally across Mexico, which take place over 8 days. Each day you drive speed control sections on public roads, then they have several special stages each day, where the Mexican police close the roads to public acess and these stages are unlimited speed. The cars are for the most part street legal performance minded cars with all the safety eqipment a race car would have, 6 point roll cage, race seats, fire system, fuel cell, etc.. Looks like a fun project, we should get started in a few weeks.
 
This is exciting, Hap! Should be a great project. Do you get to "hang your shingle" somewhere on the car?

If all goes right and the planets remain aligned, there should be two MGBs from our circle of friends entering the 2008 LaCarrera PanAmericana...Andy from California and Paul from Maryland...Andy has the GT; Paul a Tourer.

I'm sure we all will be living through the eyes of these participants as they tackle the roads of Mexico!
 
Hap, document your efforts for us please. It is the only way most of us will ever get to be part of something like this.
 
I thought that race was for autos that would have been available during the original events back in the mid-1950s. Only MGAs would be therefore legit...guess they've changed the rules since I last checked it out. We have a BMW guy out in Austin TX. who has prepped an old BMW 501 sedan and runs the event every year. He says it's a great adventure but dangerous as heck if you really have a fast car.
Also Nick Mason, the old Pink Floyd drummer (and certifiable car nut) ran the event a few years back and his co-pilot made a video of the event which was for sale on some of the car sites. Nick built up a beautiful old "C" type jag for his adventure.

I have that in VHS (and would like to have it in DVD if it's available!).

Great footage and great soundtrack!

This VHS is also what helped put my buddy, George Sullivan, into last year's race...he is a huge Pink Floyd fan...and watched that video time after time....
