MGB-GT MGB GT fuel problem

I've had some trouble with my '74 BGT this summer. I live in Ohio and back in June I took it to the Roadster Factory summer party in Pennsylvania. Just prior to the trip, the car died on me and swapping out the fuel filter seemed to solve the problem. Unfortunately it happened three times in PA but I noticed that the fuel filters that I was replacing didn't seem to be clogged. Last month it happened again and a friend suggested that my tired Weber dgv needed a rebuild. As luck would have it, I had another Weber dgv on the shelf so I just put it on. I also wrapped the fuel line in high temperateure tape where it comes near the exhaust manifold. So far so good but I'm making another trip to PA in September and don't want any surprises. Especially since my wife will be with me. Any thoughts out there?
On another note, I'm noticing that the fuel pressure keeps building after I turn off the car. When I get back in the car, I strongly smell gas and the engine is usually flooded. It always starts but what could be causing that problem? (by the way, this happened before and after the carb switch)
Thanks for any advice that can be provided on both issues.

It sounds very much like the float chamber vent in your carburetor is clogged. When a car sits after being driven, the carburetor will soak up heat from the engine, which causes the fuel in the float chamber to expand. If the float chamber vent is clogged, this expansion will force fuel into the inlet chamber.
Cheers,
