MGB MGB Front Fenders

I'm restoring a '72 mgb roadster for a daily driver and have come across a couple of new 'Rover' front fenders but I don't know what year they were meant for. There is a distinction in the Moss catalogue between the 1962-'68 and 1969-'74. Can anyone explain the differences and if they are interchangeable? Thanks. This is my first posting.

Welcome to the BCF! I believe that the front wings (I'm a Brit, so I refer to them that way) are interchangeable between the years. One difference that I am aware of is that the cutout for the front indicator is further in (towards the grille) on really early cars. That was changed around 1965 I think. The difference between items for '62-'68 cars and those from '69-'74 should be the aperture that was added for the side marker lights. Providing that the ones you found are not for rubber bumper cars then you should be alright, so long as they are identical to each other, no matter what year they were intended for. I'm sure you will get more input from other members, but I'm pretty certain that I'm right on this one /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif And with Rover wings they ARE going to fit properly!

There were three stampings for MGB front fenders; 62-68, 69-74, 75-80. The 62-68 fenders have a wider gap between the grill and the signal indicator than those on the 69-74. There are some late model 68 cars out there that had the narrow gap fenders, but 69 is generally regarded as the break point. As for 75-80, the signal lamp area is much different for the rubber bumper cars.

Be sure the fenders are for a roadster as there is a significant difference on their shape up near the cowl. Bob
