I know this can be a tricky deal reimoving the door lock cylinder and barrel. I have very limited vision but I know there is a spring clip arrangment of some kind? Do you have to remove the rod that is attached to the forked lever on back of the lock first? How is that done? I have what looks like 2 C clips facing each other just behind that forked lever that the lock rod attaches to, do I need to depress those at the same time? and then push the assembly out? The car has been repainted in th past so I'm not sure if these are the upgraded replacments or not.there is nothing on the cylinder right up against the inside of the door, would appreciate any help.

Depends on the year but: Yes, the rod should be detached first, there should be a spring steel clip holding the barrel assembly in place. It should have a "lip" for pulling it away from the lock body. It will engage the barrel from both sides, sliding into two grooves in it. There are some "aftermarket kits" using a pair of set screws to apply tension to the outer bezel but you'd see that as the mechanism if it was fitted.
 
& it should be right up against the inner skin of the door.....when the rod is removed & that clip pulled off the cylinder, you should be able to push/pull it out of the door....easiest way to so it is with a stripped door (i.e., remove the window & regulator.
 
Ok, I took another look and I can see what you are saying, I can get a fingernail under one side at a time and see it will lift away, How do you remove that rod without damaging it? just pull it out of it's forked braket? or push it, it's in there pretty tight, thanks guys

The rod should have a little bracket that you can flip backwards so the rod can be released from the mechanism.
