MGB MGB cam, gear?

Does anyone know how many degrees the cam would be off if it was inserted one tooth off? My friends car runs smooth in the garage and the timing says to set it at 10 degrees , at 850 rpm. It has to go to smog in a month or so and must be set there to start the testing. But, we are getting a little pinging on accelleration during the drive. So I was wondering if the cam was a tooth off, how that would affect the degree setting?

I believe one tooth would = about 9 degrees. If all is well but a little pinging, I'd use a higher octane gas....

:iagree: Approximately 9°. Higer octane is indicated.

And perhaps THIS could be of use. They aren't the only source, check with local machine shops.

Ok, so it is not 9 degrees off, runs too well for that, and it is running premium. So some carb tuning is needed. I did not have an engine analyzer to tune the Zenith (78 MGB), so I just set it to run till we can get it too a British car specialist.
thanks for the help
