Will a 3-main MGB camshaft work in an MGA 1500 engine?

Yup - no problem at all.

No go with the 5 main unless you don't mind losing the mechanical tach.

See Basil Adams for the Datsun cam if you're gonna be spinning that thing over 6500 for any length of time.

He hangs out on MG experience

(The pump drive teeth on a stock cam don't like 8 thousand at all /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/eek.gif )

Actually it isn't RPM per se, it is the oil pressure that eats the teeth on the cam. Keep the pressure down (its all about volume, not pressure anyway) and they last fairly well.

My MGA race engine has no problem with 8K....

Could be.....I'm one of those "over kill" kinda people.

The engine exploding-paranoia thing makes me want ta spend the extra $

If you don't have years of experience.....Error on the side of safety. /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/grin.gif /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/thumbsup.gif

My car is 3 or so years older than I am.
(But I have dated some older chicks that are still really hot looking and run well /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/grin.gif )
