MGB MGB Belt Size?

Hi
Does anyone know the correct size for the Alternator belt on a '70 MGB? I have an old Beck Arnley parts book and I looked it up in there and it shows it is 913mm which is 3/8"x36" So I ordered a couple from a guy and they do not seem to be long enough?
Thanks
Mike

I did some checking, and the 36" belt should be the right one. I'm not sure what the problem might be, but could it be that you have an oversize pulley on the alternator?

One way to check for sure is to run some string around the pulleys and give it a measure to see what size you really need.

Thanks Ron. I do have a bosch conversion alternator on it but when I first got the car I had a mehcanic friend order me a belt thru his repair shop. When I did the conversion I just used that belt no problem. I will measure it.

965mm x 10mm or 38 inches on both my 73 and 75. Ask for a belt 1" longer with the belts placed over each other than the belt shown in the computer at vatozone or the like.

I'm not sure what size it is, but I can tell you that they carry it at your local AutoZone... I found out tonight ... even though the clerk had no clue what the heck an MG is...

eh... not sure what problems Stewart is having, but the belt I got at 'the zone' fit my '76 B just fine... then again, my adjustment bracket is broken too..

I'm not sure whats happening both of mine but thats the way its been for me. I've gotten belts from checker, vatozone, pepboys and even moss and the belt they list is always close but to short. 1 inch longer works perfect and puts the alt right in the middle of the adjustment range.

odd.. the belt I got last night would have been right in the middle if my alternator adjustment bracket wasn't broken.

Go to a NAPA store, tell them what belt you want for a 1970 MGB. They'll look it up in their book and give you, or order you the right one. That's what I do and I've always got the right part. NAPAs nation wide and I'm sure they all have the same parts manuals. JMHO. PJ

If you're replacing one that fits properly, take it with you to the parts store and they can match it.

Glad I found this. I'm having the same short belt issue.

Me too, I can't tell you the number of times I go to the closet and try on some pants and..... Oh wait, we're talking about cars aren't we.:rolleyes:
