Would some kind soul please measure the length (inner and outer) of a post-1975 MGB cable, if you have a spare lying around.

I've a MGB carb on my Midget and the Midget cable is so taut you could play a tune on it. To make matters worse I'm planning on installing one of those inch thick, black, insulator/spacer blocks between carb and manifold.

The post-1975 cable has that "saddle" thing, for want of a better term, at the carburettor end.

I'm hoping the MGB cable is a bit longer.

Many thanks!

Uh, oh.
I blundered.
Just looked at the Moss catalog and the cable doesn't have a saddle - let me think about this.

OK, I'm talking about the 1974 1/2 (according to Moss Motors)(Guess it didn't last too long as they replaced it in 1975)

Anyways, anyone one got a length?

Have you tried just bicycle handbrake cable for accelerator cable? At bicycle shops You can sometimes buy both the inner and outer pieces separately, usually the inner cable comes with the little wide drum shaped end on it that fits right into the top of the pedal and get an outer piece in the colour you want.Black, white, red too i think,a foot or so too long and trim to length after you thread it through the firewall.slide the chrome ends on the outer and done.
Save a few bucks over Mosses prices too i would imagine.
I immediately was eyeballing my kids bikes and nabbed one off one they outgrew when i did mine.I think i kept the original outer piece though and just used the inner piece.

Fogliner,

Thanks for the tip.
I'll have to take another look, but I believe the 1500 Midget gas pedal takes a quite small "drum" - more like a blob that fits inside the pedal, I think.

I'll keep an eye out for bicycle shops around here though - maybe they can make one up for me.

Cheers!

I used a bicycle cable on the MGC when it snapped in 2002. Still using it.

Plus...the cable was long enough, I now have a spare in the tool box.

Bike brake cables will save your bacon. The lead end at the pedal, the pinch device at the carb side.

Rick and Doc,
Many thanks for the confirmation about using a bicycle cable - just need to find a bike shop now.
Cheers!

Heeeheee!!!!!!!!!

It works.
