Hi, i was just wondering if anyone knows what 4 pot callipers will bolt straight on to the B's hubs with out any big mods. I have heard that Rover SD1 callipers will fit with diffrend bolts and some Volvo one but not sure on the model, so any help would be great. Thanks Andy
 
Here are a couple more 4 pots setups that I've been considering myself. The good news is that they both use Wilwood calipers & they're much cheaper than the Moss kit.

The first is a pretty nice kit from "Whoa Brakes". Here is the link: Whoa Brakes They mention that you'll need to trim the dust shields - but I'd just toss them and save the effort. I noticed that Paul S, let them use his 74B as the test mule. Gave a sterling testimonial on their web site. I'd like to know how he feels today after putting a few miles on them?

The second brake kit is from Classic Conversions who are known for their V6 conversions as well as some other MGB goodies. Anyway their "improved brake kit" seems pretty good from everything I've read. If you can locate your own Wilwood Calipers, they'll actually sell you the adaptor brackets or if you want they'll sell you the whole kit (Calipers, Rotors & brackets). Yep, the SD1 calipers fit right up & all you need is a set of sleeved Triumph bolts available through Moss...simple, cheap!

I've kept an eye on ebay for a set of SD1s off & on for years now and never had any luck. Got any ideas where a fella could get a set of them?

I had a buddy in the UK go get mine...he had them rebuilt for me & sent them along with pads & the correct bolts to me...you guys have been talking about his car for a bit - the V8 with Jag suspension
 
definitely a nice car... not sure I would have used 16" wheels myself if it weren't mine to do, as it looks kind of odd to me.

I live in the land of steep hills and that Volvo/Datsun vented disc with four piston caliper conversion sounds pretty interesting there Jake! I used the link to you brake album and see that you are still (as of 12/13) going through the developement. I surly do hope that you share you hard won knowledge when you are done with it. :smile: Jack

I have yet to run them, I graduated college and lost my access to a machine shop at the same time. As soon as find a good shop here in Sactown, I will see if I can get the rotor adapters finished up. The prototype fits the front suspension great with a couple of spacer washers, so the revised design is a little thicker. They clear rostyle wheels and my V8 wheels, don't know about wires though. Check the attachment on this post to see the caliper fitted to my front suspension.

Here is another possibility, if you don't want to track down Princess calipers, modify Volvo calipers (or BMW 2002 if you want to retain solid rotors) or buy one of the kits from CCE, WHOA or Evan Amaya. You can get a set of MGC front spindles and fit those, which have 3½" caliper mounting hole spacing. Then you can straight bolt on a set of 4 pots from a Toyota 4Runner. TR4-6 use this same spacing on their uprights, this is a common upgrade for the Triumph guys. Just a thought.

Wow! great thread, I having been driving my '71 B GT since high school, i always wanted to go to a 4 pot setup on the front. I will definately keep my eye holes peeled for some Rover SD1 calipers (or save up for the Whoa! set up.)
