Hi guys - what color should a 1959 MGA frame be? Semi-gloss black?

How I got here - for amusement and for those that have been here, done that, have the tee shirt;

1) I wanted leather seats
2) So I pulled old seats and discovered the wooden floor was tired
3) So I pulled the old floor decided the frame needed to be painted
4) I found minor rust on frame, cut the minor rust out.
5) Found a strange hole cut in the transmission cover, so I took that out to weld
5) I decided that now was the time to fix the 2nd gear crunch since the transmisison cover was already off
6) Finally sucummed to reality that have to pull engine to get to gearbox (much help provided by the guys on another forum)
7) To pull the engine, I stripped engine ancillaries, decided now is a good time to fix the radiator
8) and so it goes....

The might-as-wells will get you every time! It's why my '65 has been apart for two years now.

I believe the frame was originally a low gloss black.

I feel your pain! I pulled the Bugeye's radiator in April for a recore (it was running a little hot), now I'm waiting on the new motor, front suspension, brakes, fuel tank... /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/smile.gif

tdskip,

I treated the frame on my '58 with Rust Doctor, primered and then painted with semi-gloss rustoleum.. it is now comfortably under the body while I drive the lovely little car around.... /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/driving.gif

although there are still a gazillion things yet to finish.. /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/smirk.gif

I understand where you're coming from on the might as well's. I started pulling the head to do a head gasket. That was October. The car is currently getting the last coats of pain on it as this week, and I'll have the engine back next week. While I could get in, the front suspension needed gone through as well. I understand the addiction that has become these cars.
