MGA MGA Deluxe / Twin Cam brakes

Greetings all -- I have a MGA Deluxe that I am currently restoring and will be shifting my attention to the brakes in the very near future. The current set up is 1 1/2 inch Dunlop calipers on the rear and 2 1/8 inch Dunlop fronts. My question is can I use Jag Series I E-type calipers as replacements? The only difference to me appears that the Jag E-type used 1 5/8 on the rear. Thanks for your help.

There is a dedicated Twin Cam/ deluxe group on Yahoo and those guys will have discussed this to the point of exhaustion, I guarantee . I'm familiar with the Twin Cam / deluxe brakes and yes they are like those on my E types but the cylinders are sized for proper braking balance per weight of car. Change the size , change the brake balance and cause other problems. Keep it stock , the next owner will appreciate that.

Agree - the brake balance is very good on the car as is and you don't want to upset that. The Jags also use the same front size (as do some Datsuns); the small rear cylinders are harder to find.

Suggestion - get your existing cylinders/caliper halves hard chromed and ground to size and you'll never need to worry about corrosion again.
