We had a great time this weekend at the Jefferson 500 at Summit Point, WV, partly because it was also an MG Vintage Racers Focus Event. This means an especially large number of MGs showed up.

All my pictures and videos from the event are ~HERE~

Here's the MGVR crew behind HoneyBee and a V8 BGT

[h=5]This came from Greg Prehodka via MGVR:[/h]---------------------------------------------

The “MG Vintage Racers” celebrated their 18[SUP]th[/SUP] “Focus Event” at VRG’s “Jefferson 500” at the Summit Point, W. Va. race track the weekend of May 17-19, where over 260 vintage race cars came to compete. MGVR selects one vintage race each year which they designate as their “Focus Event” and encourage all MG racers to attend. They work with the sanctioning body to include “All MG Races”, plus hosting their own MGVR socials and awards at the event. This year’s Focus Event attracted 74 MG racers who came to race and meet up with old friends. In a way Focus Events have become like family reunions! Even sons and daughters of MG racers now race with the group! With 74 MGs competing, their had to be two separate “All MG” races. One for MG T’s and MGA’s, and one race for MGB’s and MG Midgets. Friendly dicing and MG camaraderie are strongly encouraged by MGVR. This included socials at “MGVR Central” in the paddock Thursday and Friday evenings, plus the following MGVR Awards presented at VRG’s banquet Saturday evening.

MGVR Awards Presented:

“Spirit Award” (AKA “Big Copper Bucket”): To John Burgess voted
by his racing peers as having the best “MG Vintage Racing Spirit”

“Bill Parish” Award: To Dave Nicholas, as “Having the most fun without
a concern for winning”.

“Doff of the Cap” Award: To Joe Lightfoot as the MGB racer best “Preserving
the original heritage of MGB racers”.

“MGB-V8 Trophy”: To Les Gonda in an MGB-V8 as the “First Overall” in
the MG race.

MGVR’s 2014 Focus Event will be at Watkins Glen with SVRA next September, where the “60 Anniversary of the Collier Brothers Memorial Trophy Race” (for MGs) will be celebrated. When the 50[SUP]th[/SUP] anniversary was celebrated there, 143 MGs showed up to race! Who knows how many MGs will show up next year! Plans are already underway for it!
